Adsense “Since Last Payment” Display Issue
I checked my Adsense earnings three days ago and nearly got a heart attack. My “since last payment” display dropped by 60% for no apparent reason. Fortunately I skipped my Quarter Pounder that morning and did not get a heart attack. A lot of other publishers however were apparently clutching their chests already. Several webmaster forums as well as Google’s own forum were flooded with similar complaints of earnings report discrepancies.
A little tinkering revealed that if I checked my earnings individually for May and June and added the figures up, I would get my accurate earnings back. Generating an advanced report with the dates from May 1 to today would also generate the exact earnings total.
Apparently, the “since last payment” display for some publishers only shows the earnings totals from May 26 (or whenever a publisher received last payment) to the current date. That means earnings from May 1 to May 25 were discounted from the display.
After giving webmasters three days of anguish, Google has finally released a statement through its known issues page. According to the powers that be:
June 22, 2009: The amount displayed when you generate a ‘Since last payment’ report is currently incorrect, but our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Please be assured that this is only a display issue, and that you’re being properly credited for your earnings.
Work-around: In the meantime, you can still calculate how much you’ve generated since your last payment. Generate an Advanced Report for your earnings from the current month and then add the total unpaid balance listed on your Payment History page. Thanks for your patience as we work to resolve this issue.

So now it seems clear that there is nothing to worry about. But for the ultra paranoid like me, the long wait can be excruciating. I will stay away from my beloved trans fat meals until Google says everything is peaches.
