Four Basic Online Article Writing Tips

It took a lot of time and effort for me to come up with a topic for this first post. It is after all my first real chance to make a good impression so I can’t help but be nervous about it. Since this is pretty much a site full of articles, I decided to settle on writing about basic tips for online article writing.

Before anything else though, I would like to make it clear that I am a staunch believer in the power of articles in ensuring online success. Of course, I know of a lot of people who have met with a lot of success earning online even if they have crappy content. They simply rely on hardcore SEO strategies that can drive tremendous amounts of traffic to their sites.

I still believe though that SEO strategies that put little value on article quality can only go so far. If you have a few bad days in which you miss applying your strategies, you lose lots of visitors. Good articles on the other hand can’t go wrong. Aside from drawing traffic from search engines, well-written articles have the potential to create a fan base of readers who will simply keep on subscribing or coming back for more.

With that being said, the key is to learn how to write articles specifically for online readers. There are now numerous tips and strategies that focus on online article writing. For starters though, there are four basic tips that every content writer should commit to memory.

#1- Write about topics that interest you.

Not everyone would agree on this. There are online marketers and ghost writers who are so focused on earning online that they can become extremely flexible and write about anything. There is however, still a distinct advantage to writing about topics that you are interested in. If you like what you are writing about, your content will flow naturally and will give the impression that you truly know what you are writing about.

#2- Be brief and direct.

One of the first things I learned as an online writer is that academic and literary writing are worlds apart from online writing. Based on orders I’ve been receiving, clients prefer short sentences in their articles and information stated directly and plainly. Rarely do I get instructions to write in long sentences and with high sounding nouns and adjectives. It seems clients prefer brief and direct writing because that is what their readers prefer too.

#3- Write about concrete and useful information.

It goes without saying that site visitors are looking for information that they can use. You should therefore make sure that your articles have content that will provide data, solutions or instructions about your topic. Depending on your niche, your articles should ideally be able to answer what, how and why.

#4- Use keywords wisely.

There was a time when writers had to rely heavily on keywords. That was mainly because search engines picked up these keywords from a website whenever searchers typed them in search fields. In a way, the keywords of a website partly determined if a site would show up in search engine results.

Today, expert marketers claim that keywords no longer hold as much value as before. In fact, if you stuff your articles with too many keywords, a search engine could end up penalizing your site.

Nonetheless, using a controlled number of keywords still makes a lot of sense. After all, search engines still look into the words or content of websites to provide searchers with close matches to whatever they are looking for. The key is to not use too many keywords. Some experts maintain that keyword densities of about 3%-5% are just about alright. It is however also sensible to simply use a main keyword just three or four times in an article and use keyword variations throughout.

These basic tips are only just the beginning. As my new website picks up steam, I’ll be writing in length about online success through online article writing and related strategies.
